There is one train each day that crosses from China to Vietnam and one in the opposite direction.
Train T8701 departs daily from Nanning at 18h05 and arrives in Hanoi at 05h30 for a total travel time of 11 hours and 25 minutes. However the arrival time is only approximate and the train is often late depending on how long the immigration procedures take. At the Chinese border you will change to the Vietnamese train number MR2.
Train MR1 departs daily from Hanoi Gia Lam station at 21h20 and arrives in Nanning at 10h07 for a total travel time of 12 hours and 47 minutes (subject to delays). At the Chinese border you will change for train T8702.
Only the soft sleeper class is available.
Total ticket price is US$65 per ticket plus a fixed delivery fee of US$5 (for any number of ticket).
Tickets are released 18 days ahead but we can receive your confirmation at any time.
Special notes on the Nanning-Hanoi train:
– Your tickets can be delivered to you anywhere in China, not necessarily in Nanning.
– We need a copy of the passport of every passenger to purchase the tickets.
– If a Vietnam visa is required for your nationality, we need a copy of your visa along with the order form to purchase the tickets.
– The train may encounter delays due to the China and Vietnam immigration and custom clearing of passengers. These are two separate procedures.
The Beijing to Hanoi train
There is also a train from Beijing to Hanoi. However the price is ridiculously high. Instead we recommend that travelers take the high-speed train or normal train from Beijing to Nanning and then switch to T8701. It is faster and cheaper.
